In my free time you can catch me cheering on FSU, hiking, fishing, cycling, and being outdoors with my wife, Cora, and our pup, Theo! We are pumped to be trading the gulf coast for the mountains and to be joining the awesome MAHEC family! Everyone within the program was incredibly genuine and passionate about what they do both in and outside of medicine. MAHEC stood out to me with their strong in-patient and out-patient training all within an environment that is welcoming and supportive. This past interview cycle was unique in that it was entirely virtual. I too felt called to Family Medicine throughout medical school because of the ability to care/advocate for people of all ages and ailments, while forming long lasting relationships along the way. Growing up in a household where my father was a practicing family doctor provided an awesome introduction to this wonderful field. In fact, I received both my undergraduate and medical degrees there. Growing up a diehard Seminole fan made my decision to attend Florida State University a no-brainer. I was born in Honolulu, HI but raised in Tallahassee, FL. Hello everyone! My name is Andrew Currieo. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from and contribute back to the Asheville community. Among my interests outside of medicine are open water swimming, bicycle touring, and spontaneous local adventures with my partner, Lisa, and our kids. I particularly enjoy learning how to think about the systems that affect health in order to improve health outcomes at an individual and population level. My interests within family medicine are broad and evolving. I returned to school for post-baccalaureate coursework and several years later started medical school in Washington, DC. A variety of short-term contract and volunteer positions exposed me to the immense value of primary care. I initially studied business in college at UNCW then went to work in health informatics for several years before taking time off to find a more fulfilling path. I grew up in Charlotte, NC with a lot of time spent swimming and cycling, including memorable trips along the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. Meeting residents, graduates, and faculty further reinforced the caring and supportive culture in Asheville. I was drawn to this program by its commitment to a mission of service, as well as the social and environmental support for my family. Greetings! I am so glad to be joining MAHEC and the Asheville community.
